Jeffrey Nathan is the host of Jewish Television Network’s New Jewish Cuisine
and is the head chef and co-owner of the critically acclaimed Abigael’s on Broadway, now the largest gourmet kosher restaurant in the country. Nathan's first cookbook, Adventures in Jewish Cooking
, published by Clarkson Potter, will be available in September 2002 and is a companion to the public television series.
Nathan’s career started more than 25 years ago, when he washed dishes for a neighborhood Italian restaurant in Queens. After serving a tour of duty in the Navy, he enrolled in the premiere cooking school in the United States, The Culinary Institute of America. Chef Nathan’s career blossomed in New York at Luchow’s, The Company and the renowned New Deal Restaurant & Garden. During his tenure at New Deal, Nathan became known for his innovative preparation of exotic meats and the restaurant’s Annual Wild Game Festival.
Inspired by his connection to Judaism, Nathan became determined to set a new standard for kosher cuisine and established Abigael’s in 1995. With a creative menu that stresses light sauces, vinaigrettes and food that ranges from Tex-Mex and Cajun to French and Italian, Nathan’s cooking emphasizes the flavors of modern American fare with global nuances.
Abigael’s features several specials throughout the year, including an annual Argentinean Festival. To celebrate the change of seasons, the restaurant also boasts of a unique Duck Festival from February through May.

Nathan lives for cooking and met his wife while working in the kitchen of New Deal. Together with their children, they live in Livingston, New Jersey.
