Nominated for an "Outstanding Service Show Host" Emmy Award in his debut season, Kevin O’Connor is the newest member of America’s favorite home improvement team. Kevin is the host of the Emmy Award-winning series, This Old House, the Emmy-nominated series, Ask This Old House, and Inside This Old House. Kevin also serves on the editorial board of This Old House magazine, published by This Old House Ventures, Inc.
An avid home enthusiast, Kevin's curiosity and prankish sense of humor immediately endeared him to the craftsmen he now works alongside: master carpenter Norm Abram, general contractor Tom Silva, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey and landscape contractor Roger Cook. Kevin's father, a civil engineer, practically raised Kevin and his four brothers and two sisters at his various job sites, assigning the O'Connor crew tasks ranging from pushing a broom to installing wallboard. Years later, when Kevin and his wife, Kathleen, were looking for their first home, they jumped at the chance to buy a Victorian fixer-upper. With a long to-do list, Kevin, a lifelong fan of This Old House, turned to the experts to help with their renovation projects. He and Kathleen sent an e-mail to Ask this Old House for help. To their surprise and delight, Tom Silva and painting contractor Jim Clark came calling, resulting in a segment for Ask This Old House. No one, at that point, realized that this was Kevin's first screen test. What started as a House call turned into a casting call. Many disguised calls and veiled visits later. Kevin met with the creator of This Old House, Russell Morash. The rest is history.
